It is credit for that meal. It expires. If nobody redeems it, the unused value is not refunded and stays with Birthday Steak. The pub is paid only when the voucher is redeemed in their system.
You name the guest, pick a house, and choose the first day it can be used. We say the same terms again before you pay.

The supper is at an independent pub in South Yorkshire or North Nottinghamshire. A name appears in the public directory only when we are actually trading with that house.
Until a partnership is live, you can still buy a voucher and choose a venue in checkout as we bring pubs on. An unused voucher is not paid to a pub. Payment to the house happens when staff redeem the code.

What happens to the money
Unused is not refunded
If the guest never redeems it, you are not repaid and neither are they. The unused value stays with Birthday Steak. That is stated again before you pay.
The pub is paid on redemption
The guest registers with the email the voucher was sent to, books a table, and shows the code. Staff redeem it, and the venue is owed 90% of the face value. Birthday Steak keeps 10%.
